Small_Change

I am writing this blog in response to Mr. Vishal Dadlani's effort http://smallchange.in/ to curb Media's increasing nuisance and crossing the limit (limit that defines the difference between exercising & abusing of freedom-of-speech in a democratic country).

These TV(so-called) News Channels are taking our society in a totally wrong direction. In the name of of News they are providing us with entertainment matter. Breaking News are now-a-days matter of regular fun. Some celebs maligned another's image on blog or someone sneezed or someone else heard the blast too or they have gone to some location too ........ These are the kind of Breaking news presented by the developed countries?
Oh! no, we are still developing countries, and don't think of getting developed anymore. These News Channels should be renamed to Entertainment Channel like News24 to Entertainment24, IndiaNews to IndiaEntertainment and so on... Yes, I am taking names.

These News channels were adding the terrorist to spread terror. They were doing the magnification process of the effects. An unidentified man entered into a college and it's Dean asked him to be checked, next, the media went crazy "There's a terrorist in CST, no it's in Marine Drive, no it's near Metro Talkie, no it's in St. Xavier .........".
Respectable Court please send them to at least a months rigorous punishment or to some 'Sudhar-gruh'.

Even after repeated request from our Police-NSG force they(Stubborn Reporters) were not moving away from the terror-struck scene but still loitering over there, trying to give us live updates. Who wanted all that Live update? Not me, I wanted to end it with as less as possible damage with the end-results in India's favour. An hourly update would have done. These reporters were telling in camera that they were very bravely sending us the footage. These reporter were very bravely disobeying the security personal's order and sending the footage to all (knowingly-unknowingly to even terrorists). And above all they were continuously shouting "we, the XYZ-News Channel are doing this for you, we, the XYZ News Channel has risked our lives." Why? Who asked them to risk their lives, when already many lives were on risk? Why they were causing more headache to the Security guards? They were doing it for TRP-Name-Fame factor.......Holy God! give them sense .... common-sense, please.

Few of the Channels were showing the message like "We the XYZ Channel has decided to show delayed footage, in regard to National Interest. We this...... We that .........". I want to tell them, it's not YOUR interest, it's NATION's interest. If your TRP doesn't boosts up, let it be, the Nation must benefit. Even the anchors were going crazy. After shouting for the whole day, their voice became croak, yet they were shouting on top of their lungs to make impact of their "NEWS" channel, not to deliver news. And How did I felt, when I heard these anchors asking their Cameraman to show them the location of NSG commandos? NSGs were trying to locate the terrorists, while Media-person were giving away our strategy & position. NSGs were not fully aware of the weapons carried by the terrorists, but media-person were giving out each possible detail of our Commando's arsenal. If next time (GOD forbid) something happens, these BRAVE Media-persons should be sent inside, to bring the vital information needed by Indian Soldiers/Police.

On one of these channel, when Senior Editor Mr. Tarun Vijay was criticising media's over-excitement the anchor questioned him - How could he criticise media when he was associated with Media. Now was that a thing to be said? Even when cable connection to Taj was dis-continued, their partners-in-crime (hiding under cover of Indian nationality) were updating the terrorists of latest news from their own TV-set, via phones. Do I need to mention, that there are already loads of China mobile products which catches TV frequency? that the free-to-air channels can be caught on Radios even?

I am not against the Media to have it's freedom-of-speech, neither want a iron-curtain for media, nor clipping it's wings, but as there is a difference between विनम्रता & दब्बूपन , so is between स्वतंत्रता & फूहड़ता, and media should understand it.
If you have bollywood special in between regualr news, its good. But these channels go upto the extent of reverse this, by sprinkling regular news in all daylong bollywood news. If I compare these channels to atleast our DoorDarshan (National Channels), they are a far better species.

DDs tries to present even Entertainment info. packaged as news material. These News channels try to present even general news as entertainment material.

One thing you can say about them (DD) is, the news presentation tends to be monotonous. So to be different, these private News channels tried to think out of box, and ended up living totally out of box. Now, if they do some thing normal, it will be considered diffferent.

There should be some guidelines to be followed , so as to viewer can have a sensible viewing experience.
1. No news channels can have more than 03 braking news banner per day.
(except on crisis day like 9/11 or 26/11).
2. No breaking News banner will be shown for longer than 20 minutes.
3. No news can be shown for more than 15 minutes unless it is converted into talk or discussion show
    (plz, no more commissioner की बिल्ली and काले कुत्ते का आतंक type of news).

if any of you have additional points, which should still better follow on their own, kindly list it in your comments to this post. I will try to summarize it, and forward a copy to Mr. Vishal Dadlani too. Also do mention what you think of Mr. Dadlani's effort.

I would like to request the readers to share their view & thing they have noticed with various News Channel ( & anchors).
